Reaching Out
Sunday Morning Coffee Ministry
Every Sunday morning, usually beginning one hour prior to the start of worship, we offer a cup of coffee, cocoa or lemonade and a granola bar on the portico at the Meeting House. People from all walks of life enjoy the kindness and genuine Christian hospitality showed by our church members.
Saturday Breakfast
Center Church is strategically located at the heart of the City of Hartford and twice a month, every second and third Saturdays, volunteers from churches, synagogues and community organizations come together to cook a hot breakfast to our neighbors in the city who are food insecure. Whether it is raining or snowing, cold or warm, we open our dining hall at the lower level of the Church House and serve as many as 80 breakfasts each Saturday. If you and your family; your faith community or downtown office staff would like to make a difference by preparing and serving breakfast on a Saturday morning, please, contact our Church Office.
Hands on Hartford
Hands on Hartford (formerly Center City Churches) provides social services to the most vulnerable and needy residents of Hartford. Center Church members assist the MANNA program of Hands on Hartford by making contributions of food, clothing, and money. Center Church members also tutor students at Betances School and, when called to service, join together with other Hands on Hartford partners for larger community-wide days of service.
Walk Against Hunger
The annual Walk Against Hunger benefits the larger region-wide efforts of Foodshare, Inc. Held the first Sunday in May, Center Church’s walkers and their sponsors see their monies go directly to the MANNA program of Hands on Hartford.
Christian Activities Council
CAC’s main goal is to serve and empower the poor, the disenfranchised, the marginalized and persons with special needs while promoting social, economic and racial justice in the Hartford metropolitan area. As a congregation committed to urban ministries as well as to the healing message of the Gospel, Center Church is an active partner in the compassionate work of the Christian Activities Council.
Family Life Education
Committed to invest in education and to provide families with the tools to build stronger communities, Center Church supports the mission and vision of Family Life Education and its work with gang- involved teens, single mothers, substance-using individuals who are coming from poverty and violence-ridden areas in Hartford.
True Colors
True Colors is a non-profit organization that works with other social service agencies, schools, organizations, and within communities to ensure that the needs of sexual and gender minority youth are both recognized and competently met. The organization trains more than 2400 people annually, organizes the largest LGBT youth conference in the country with more than 2000 attendees and manages the state’s only LGBT mentoring program. Center Church shares True Colors commitment to end discrimination against gay teens and to welcome them into the life of a caring and nurturing faith community.
